Female Singer Kona

Dilshad Nahar Kona is a well known singer of our country. From her hit song 'Jaymitik Bhalobasha' in 2006 to being one of the singers of the ICC theme song 'Char Chokkha Hoi Hoi', Kona has proved her self to be an iconic singer in popular culture. But a lot of people don't know that she has a passion for Nazrul Sangeet.
She started to learn Nazrul Sangeet in Nazrul Academy when she was very young. “I used to sing Nazrul's uncommon songs like 'Prem Nagar ka Thikana Karle' or 'Sakhiri Dekhle' which got my teachers' attention. From that time I was hooked to Nazrul Sangeet,” says Kona.

Kazi Nazrul Islam is known for his versatility. From romance to patriotism, he mastered all. Not only the lyrics but also the composition and rhythm, everything has a unique touch to it. “If you listen to his Islamic songs, like 'Mashjid er e Pashe Amar Kobor Dio Bhai' or 'Dur Ajaner dhoni', you will get goose bumps. But when you will listen to songs like 'Khele Nonder O lal' you will think he comes from a Brahmin background as the song is so knowledgeably written,” says the singer.
But the songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam aren't widely recorded or archived compared to Rabindranath's work. So a lot of changes in the songs are being discovered from time to time. About this Kona says, “I used to sing 'Noyon e Rakhia' as Nilufar Yasmin used to back in the day which was a slow track. But after a couple of years Nazrul Institute discovered the actual notations. This happened because a lot of his songs weren't recorded back in his day. But what I would really like to see is the youth being excited about the songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam otherwise they would be missing out on something great.”
